Concealed-Carry Handgun Permit Qualification

Outline: What You Will Learn, What You Will Do, In This Class:

Get weapons training and legal information concerning the defense of your person, of any third party, and of your property.
The instruction consists of Utah + the U.S. / Oregon qualification (these courses are taught back-to-back during the same day).

This combined class, as far as is known, is valid for a concealed-carry application in any concealed-carry state in the U.S. and U.S. territories / protectorates.

Weapons fired by, and / or demonstrated for, every student, in each class. Click on (Defensive) Rifles, Shotguns, or Handguns, below to view these firearms:

  • Defensive Rifles: Compact (16" barrel) semi-automatic, low-recoil, folding stock defensive rifles in small, medium, and large calibers.
  • Defensive Shotguns: Compact (18"barrel), rifle-sighted, folding and standard stock, 12 gauge, in double-barrel, pump and semi-automatic actions.
  • Defensive Handguns: Revolvers (.38 Special and .357 magnum), and Semi-Automatics (.40 caliber Glocks) in a multitude of sizes, weights, barrel lengths, sight configurations, grips, and trigger pulls.

The following are procedures, requirements and details about the class:

Class Dates:

Classes are dictated, entirely, – by the weather and, to a much lesser degree, by numbers of students (minimum of 5 and a maximum of 9).

The weather – must be 65+ degrees, with no more than a chance of light rain, and with wind gusts of less than 12 mph.

Note: The knowledge / skills learned on the range could be the difference between life and death if you ever have to use them. Trying to safely absorb this information in a windblown, chilly, wet, environment with loaded weapons is dangerous / unacceptable. Thusly, classes in October, November and March are rare … but can happen.

Note: If a late-hour freak weather change (temperature drop, or unexpected winds) is predicted, you will be notified of the cancellation several days in advance

The range – is nine-lanes, with covered shooting tables and seating, but open air and with outdoor targets. See the Photo Gallery page to review the range set-up.

The students – a minimum of five and maximum of nine individuals, all of whom can attend on the same day, must be registered.  Register on the Contact Us page.

Where:

In Philomath … the academic phase is usually at McDonald’s or the public library and the range phase approximately 15 minutes from these locations. An exact location will be provided prior to each class.

Who Can Take This Class:
Anyone with the desire, and who is not prohibited, by law, from owning/shooting a firearm. Students 13-17 must be accompanied by an adult. Wheelchairs are not an issue.  No prior knowledge/experience of firearms, whatsoever, is necessary.

Outline of a Fairly Typical Class:

  • Meet at 6:05 A.M.
  • Instruction packets passed out and the class begins at 6:15
  • This phase has 61 topics – ‘takes about two and a half to four hours.
  • All questions are answered regardless of how long it takes.
  • Convoy to the range, about six miles from Philomath.
  • The range phase is usually finished not later than noon.

If you are from Benton County:

The class will provide the Oregon application packet.

If you are NOT from Benton County:

Your Oregon application is available at your county-of-resident Sheriff's Office ... get two per person in case one gets messed up.  “Sheriffs' Shops” are not open on weekends.

You can also download your application from most county sheriff's office web sites. If you can't get a packet, come to class anyway and the instructor will complete the necessary form and you can transfer the info' later.

You Are Not Required To Bring Anything To The Class:

The course will provide everything.

  • Application packets for Utah and Benton county
  • Range cards
  • Fingerprint cards (and the accompanying instruction sheet)
  • Pens, Targets, ear and eye protection, etc.

However … Bring your personal eye / ear protection, if you so-choose.

No-No Stuff:

No … Personal ammo.

No … Personal firearms. If you want to become a better marksman, and / or familiarize yourself with your own weapon, ask about our marksmanship course.

No … Concealed-carry holsters or fanny packs or purses or whatever – those are for the marksmanship course.

Do not buy a self-defense gun before the class.

After this course, you'll have a much better idea of what you, personally, should be carrying – what you shoot best.  Additionally, you will br directed to dealers who will demonstrate / order / sell you the weapon of your choice, usually, at a lower price than you can find on your own.

Cost:
$147.00     Check, cash, or MO, on the morning of the class.

If You Already Have An Oregon Concealed-Carry Permit (Expired Or Active):

You still must take this course, and shoot in this course, in order for the instructor to stamp and sign your application and range (familiarity / competency) card.

Choose Wisely:

Before taking a concealed-carry permit class, research, and compare, the course content, and instructors qualifications, carefully.

The skill / ability you gain from that course might well be the live-or-die factor for you or your most precious loved ones – this is a horrifying, played-out-many-times-everyday, fact on today’s earth.

Courses that’ll allow (not qualify) a person to apply for a ‘permit are common.

Programs that’ll make a permit-holder truly knowledgeable and competent with multiple types of defensive firearms are uncommon.

The core of the ShootBane course is (after the detailed academics) to, affordably, provide the most far-reaching array of defensive firearms, and require the most extensive hands-on instruction possible – in the areas of:

  • Real-time safety
  • Professional range conduct
  • Real-life marksmanship
  • Extensive, and multiple facets of, live-fire, with multiple weapons
